Bio

Professor at the Jagiellonian University, postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Civil Law. Graduate of the Magister Juris at the University of Oxford.

He gives lectures and seminars on civil law, business insurance law, international commercial contracts and new technologies. He works with the Institute of Commercial Law at the University of Leuven (Belgium) as a Senior Research Affiliate. In the past, he was a research associate at the University of Heidelberg (Germany).

He specializes in contract law, the law of financial services (banking, insurance, payments) and the law of international economic transactions. He combines his academic work with expert activity. In the past, he worked as a lawyer at the European Central Bank in Frankfurt (Directorate Legal Department). From 2019 to 2021, he served as deputy chairman of the Scientific Advisory Committee to the Polish Financial Ombudsman in Warsaw.

Author of expert reports for the Senate of the Republic of Poland, the Institute of Justice and business entities. Visiting professor at Cornell Law School (USA), Maurer Law School (USA), universities of Zurich, Augsburg, Ferrara. He has held research stays at the University of Michigan Law School and the University of Oxford, among others. Head of the research project of the National Science Center “Insurance Contract in the 21st Century” and an international educational project on the law of new technologies (European Commission grant). He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Polish Association of Economic Analysis of Law in Warsaw, and a member of international scientific and professional societies: European Association of Private Internaitonal Law (EAPiL), International Association of Insurance Law (AIDA); Gesellschaft für Rechtsvergleichung.

He is the author of numerous scientific publications in prestigious foreign publishing houses, including Brill, Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press. Co-author of the acclaimed Commentaries on Civil Law (ed. P. Machnikowski), Banking Law (ed. F. Zoll) and System of Commercial Law, vol: Law of Financial Instruments (ed. J. Stec). Publishing reviewer for international journals and scientific publications. Reviewer in Polish and foreign doctoral and postdoctoral dissertations, including at the University of Augsburg in Germany. He is a member of the program board of international scientific journals Journal of Law, Market & Innovation, Journal of Collaborative Organization and Management. Speaker at many scientific and professional conferences and seminars, in Poland and abroad (including Geneva Association; Society of Legal Scholars, UK; Gesellschaft für Rechtsvergleichung, Germany; AIDA: International Association of Insurance Law).
